ما أجهل الأب لو ربَّى ابنه ترفاً
ولمand does not يكلهentrust him لأستاذto a teacher وأظلَمَهُand how unjust he is
ولم يكله لأستاذ وأظلَمَهُ
How ignorant is the father if he raises his son in luxury
How ignorant is the father if he raises his son in luxury
and does not entrust him to a teacher—and how unjust he is!
And does not assign him to a teacher, thus keeping him in the dark
يعطيهgives him ماwhatever يشتهيhe desires إذwhen قامhe began ينذرهto threaten him
يعطيه ما يشتهي إذ قام ينذره
بالانتحارwith suicide وكانand was الخوفfear أرغمهcompelling him
بالانتحار وكان الخوف أرغمه
He gives him whatever he desires when he begins to threaten him
Giving him whatever he desires when he threatens
with suicide, and fear has compelled him.
To commit suicide, and fear forces him
أراهI see him أشبهmost like منone who يعطيpays المشعوذthe charlatan إذwhile
أراه أشبه من يعطي المشعوذ إذ
يجريmakes flow دماءblood ابنهhis son وهماdeludedly ليرحمهto show him mercy
يجري دماء ابنه وهما ليرحمه
I find him much like one who pays a charlatan while
He is like one who gives a sorcerer
he sheds his son's blood, deludedly seeking to show him mercy.
