Is what you do a form of honoring, or

a form of torment and humiliation?

النار للأجساد خير مطهر

لو كان في الأجساد بعض شعور

Fire is the best purifier for bodies,

if there were any feeling in bodies.

لو تعقلون أعدتموها في الثرى

والأرض أصدق مبدأ ومصير

If you used reason, you would return them to the soil;

and the earth is the truest origin and destination.

إن البلى لمآلها ولو اَنَّها

في أبحر وكواكب وقصور

في أبحر وكواكب وقصور

Decay is surely their fate, even if they are

in seas and stars and palaces.

وتساءلوا أين النفوس فإنها

وتساءلوا أين النفوس فإنها

لأحق بالتفكير والتدبير

لأحق بالتفكير والتدبير

And ask yourselves where the souls are, for they

are surely more deserving of reflection and planning.
