بنى مصطفى كرمتمُ اليوم مصطفى

فأديتمُ حق الأبوة فيهِ

فأديتمُ حق الأبوة فيهِ

Sons of Mustafa, today you have honored Mustafa,

and so paid him his due as a father.

وكنتم له طلابَ خيرِ معلمٍ

وكنتم له طلابَ خيرِ معلمٍ

وكان لكم أرعى أب لبنيه

وكان لكم أرعى أب لبنيه

And you were his pupils, he the finest of teachers,

and he was to you the most caring father to his sons.

أعدّكمُ في الأمس أحسن نشأة

أعدّكمُ في الأمس أحسن نشأة

وزودكم منه لما سيليه

وزودكم منه لما سيليه

Yesterday he prepared you with the finest upbringing,

and from that past equipped you for what would follow.

إليه انتهى فضل الزمان كما انتهى

إليه انتهى فضل الزمان كما انتهى

إلى أخويه قبله وأبيه

إلى أخويه قبله وأبيه

In him the excellence of the age culminated, as it had

in his two brothers before him, and in his father.

وحسبكمُ فيه وجاهة عالم

وحسبكمُ فيه وجاهة عالم

من الدين والدنيا وعلم وجيه

من الدين والدنيا وعلم وجيه

And enough for you in him is a scholar’s eminence

in religion and worldly life, and an eminent man’s learning.

إذا قرَّ حكمُ الشعب في حكمائه

إذا قرَّ حكمُ الشعب في حكمائه

فقد قر في أربابه وذويه

فقد قر في أربابه وذويه

When the people’s rule rests with their wise men,

then indeed it rests with its masters and those fit to wield it.

وما الجاه إلا ما أتى لمروءة

وما الجاه إلا ما أتى لمروءة

وعاد بذكر في البلاد نبيه

وعاد بذكر في البلاد نبيه

And prestige is only that which comes through noble character

and brings illustrious renown throughout the land.
