تجاهلني الوادي الخصيب وأهله

تجاهلني الوادي الخصيب وأهله

وفي كل فج منه مأثرةٌ مني

وفي كل فج منه مأثرةٌ مني

The fertile valley and its people have ignored me,

The fertile valley ignored me and its people

Yet in every pass within it lies a noble deed of mine.

And in every one of its ravines there is a ruin of mine

وعذري إليه في سكوتيَ علتي

وعذري إليه في سكوتيَ علتي

وما عذر قومي في سكوتهم عني

وما عذر قومي في سكوتهم عني

And my illness is my excuse to it for my silence;

And my excuse to it is in my silence, my ailment

But what excuse have my people for their silence about me?

And what is the excuse of my people in their silence about me

ولم يبق لي في عشرة الأنس مؤنس

ولم يبق لي في عشرة الأنس مؤنس

وإني من الأعصاب في وحشة الجن

وإني من الأعصاب في وحشة الجن

And in friendly company, no comforting companion remains for me;

And there remained for me no comforter of intimacy

And because of my nerves, I suffer the loneliness of the jinn.

And I am from nerves in the loneliness of Jinn

وما بي إلا ضيعة العهد عندهم

وما بي إلا ضيعة العهد عندهم

وهذا هو المبلي وهذا هو المضني

وهذا هو المبلي وهذا هو المضني

And nothing ails me but their neglect of our bond;

And I have nothing but the loss of the covenant with them

This is what wears me down, and this is what exhausts me.

And this is what wears me out and this is what saddens me

ولو سألوا عني لكان صنيعهم

ولو سألوا عني لكان صنيعهم

وكان هو الشافي وكان هو المغني

وكان هو الشافي وكان هو المغني

And had they asked after me, that kindness of theirs

And if they asked about me, their deed would have been

Would have been the cure; it would have been all I needed.

And it would have been the healer and it would have been the consoler
