ر يلاقي الخطوب سمحاً لعوبا
Who, like Abd al-Aziz, is stronger against Time,
Like Abdu'l-Aziz I face my fate with strength,
Meeting calamities, magnanimous and playful?
Meeting misfortunes with a patient grace.
زلزلتwas shaken أرضهhis land فغنّىso he sang علىamid زلearthquake (beginning of زلزالها)
زلزلت أرضه فغنّى على زل
زالهاits earthquake (completion of زلزالها) ناعمtender الفؤادof heart طروباjoyful
زالها ناعم الفؤاد طروبا
His land was shaken, yet he sang amid its earthquake,
Though quakes may shake the land where I belong,
Tender-hearted and full of joy.
With tranquil heart I sing of what God brings.
