I offer condolences to the minister of the two nations, and complain
I console the minister of the two nations,
To him against fate over his father's death.
And complain to him of fate, the death of his father.
مضىhas passed away خاتمthe last of الجيلthe generation الممهدthat paved سبلهits paths
إلىto المجدglory للجيلfor the generation الذيthat سيليهwill follow it
Gone is the last of the generation that paved its paths
The seal of the pioneering generation has passed away,
To glory for the generation that will follow it.
He who paved the way to glory for the next generation.
أبوكyour father أبوthe father of الأحرارfree men فيthroughout الأرضthe earth كلهاall of it
فخطبهمُso their bereavement فيهin him كخطبكlike your bereavement فيهin him
Your father is the father of free men throughout the earth,
Your father, the father of the free in all the land,
So his loss is as grievous to them as it is to you.
His speech about you resembles your speech about him.
وإنand indeed الذيhe who أعطىgave بنيهhis sons خلالهhis virtues
لباقsurely lives on علىin الدنياthis world بقاءfor the lifetime of بنيهhis sons
And he who bestowed his virtues on his sons
He who gave his children his merits,
Surely lives on in this world as long as his sons live.
Remains eternal in this world through his children.
وإنand though لمdid not نجدwe find عنهfrom him منamong الأمرaffairs شاغلاًa distraction
ففيكso in you الغنىsufficiency عنهin his stead لمفتقديهfor those who miss him
And though we find no concern to distract us from him,
Even if we do not find a replacement for him,
In you, those who miss him find his place filled.
You are sufficient to replace him for those who miss him.
وقدand indeed كانit was أولىmore fitting أنthat يعيشhe should live إلىuntil المدىthe span of time
ترىyou see فيهin it ماwhat أمّلتهyou hoped for it وتريهand you show him
And it would have been more fitting for him to live until the time
He deserved to have lived forever,
When you would see what you had hoped for, and show it to him.
So you could see in him what you hoped for and wished.
