ركبت على البابور يا أيها البدر

ليأخذ حظّ البرّ من فضلك البحر

ليأخذ حظّ البرّ من فضلك البحر

You boarded the steamship, O full moon,

You rode the steamer, O moon

So the sea might receive the land's share of your bounty.

To get your share of righteousness from your sea's bounty

وأفطرتم فيه ليزداد حظوة

وأفطرتم فيه ليزداد حظوة

فصار لكل منهما الفضل والذخر

فصار لكل منهما الفضل والذخر

And you broke your fast aboard it, that it might gain more favor,

And you broke fast in it to increase intimacy

So each of the two gained distinction and treasure.

So each got merit and treasure

فنعم لنا البابور إذ أنتم به

فنعم لنا البابور إذ أنتم به

ونعم ونعم البر والبحور والفطر

ونعم ونعم البر والبحور والفطر

How fine for us is the steamship, since you are aboard!

Good for us is the steamer, since you are in it

And how fine, how fine are the land, the seas, and the breaking of the fast!

And good, so very good, are righteousness, seas, and breakfast

وحيث ركبتم في أمان وعزة

وحيث ركبتم في أمان وعزة

على كرتخنّ اليوم صار له الفخر

على كرتخنّ اليوم صار له الفخر

And since you embarked in safety and honor

And since you rode in safety and dignity

Aboard Kartakhann today, glory has become its own:

Aboard Kartik today, it has the pride

على كل بابور له الفخر دائما

على كل بابور له الفخر دائما

وحق له عنها التقدم والشكر

وحق له عنها التقدم والشكر

Above every steamship, its glory lasts forever,

Over every steamer it has lasting pride

And precedence over them and gratitude are rightly its due.

And it deserves to be ahead of them in thanks
