حيثwherever انتهتarrived هذيthese لذيto one who يتنقّلmoves about
Would that time stood still at these three,
If only time would stand still at the three:
wherever they come to one who wanders:
Where my carefree youth came to its end,

إلاexcept بماin what باللبto the mind مناof ours يفعلit does
the anguish of longing, free of any taint,
With no trace of gray in my locks,
save for what it does to our minds;
Except what my mind makes me feel.

or a maiden, slender as a branch, rounded as a dune,
Or a slender, pliant, willowy branch,
dawn-bright, while the night in her is darker still;
Fresh at dawn, shady at night.

Or a friend, if I wanted to speak,

To whom my words would give no offense.

This one moans, and that one warbles, reciting
One groans in sorrow, another sings merrily,
verse; and this one listens silently, shifting restlessly.
Reciting poetry, while a third fidgets in silence.
