دع الحث يا هذا وحالي له نطق
My slanderers persisted; then, as a group, they said:
They urged and my companions blamed me,
Stop urging, you there; my condition speaks for itself.
“Cease this love, my friend, for it can speak.”
أبيrefused الحبlove إلاexcept ذاكthat والقولand the saying قائلdeclares
أبي الحب إلا ذاك والقول قائل
علىbeyond الراقعthe mender الراقيthe healer who recites charms قدindeed اتسعhas widened الخرقthe tear
على الراقع الراقي قد اتسع الخرق
Love would accept only that, and the saying declares:
Yet I want only that love and saying,
The tear has grown too wide for the mender who recites healing charms.
On the worn cloak the tear has grown more large.
