We have a stratagem against everything,

Or a way to repel it, even if it enters the realm of the impossible—

Except the arrows’ impact from those who bring lovesickness—

May we never lack the impact of those arrows!

And the fluttering of hearts at a bough’s suppleness,

Swaying with the quivering of haunches,

And kinds of singing and poetry,

And the sound of the armlet and the anklet.

Would that I knew: is there any way to repel this,

Or any way around it, by any stratagem?
