فاق الورى في علمه بحر الندى

ماء العيون الشيخ سيدي المصطفى

He surpassed mankind in his knowledge—a sea of bounty:

Ma’ al-‘Uyun, the shaykh, my master al-Mustafa.

وهو الخليفة للنبي محمد

وهو الذي نال المحامد في الصبا

And he is the successor to the Prophet Muhammad,

And he is the one who won praise in youth.

ذاك الذي فاق الرجال بفقهه

وأصوله وبيانه بين الورى

That is he who surpassed men in his jurisprudence,

And in his legal theory and eloquence among mankind,

وبشعره وبنحوه وحديثه

وينفع ذي القربى ونفع اللذنأى

And in his poetry, grammar, and knowledge of hadith.

And he benefits his kin and has benefited those far away.

كل الشريعة والحقيقة حزته

لازلت في كل البرية منتقى

You have attained all the sacred Law and spiritual Truth.

May you ever remain the chosen one among all creation.

ياذا التقي حزت المكارم كلها

حزت السخا حزت السنا حزت العلى

O pious one, you have attained every noble virtue.

You have attained generosity, attained radiance, attained the heights.

ماء العيون لدى الصفا شمس الضحى

حتف العدى جم الجدى بدر الدجى

Ma’ al-‘Uyun—in purity, the sun of the forenoon;

The doom of foes, lavish in bounty, the full moon in darkness;

قطب الترى رحب الذرى راس الذر

ى ظل الورى دفء الشتا نور القرى

The earth’s pole, vast in eminence, the summit of the heights;

Shade for mankind, winter’s warmth, the light of the villages.

حلو الفكاهة للورى لكنّه

يوم الوغى يسق العدى كاس الردى

Sweet in humor toward mankind, yet he

On the day of battle makes foes drink the cup of death.

يا شمسنا من جاء بابك زائرا

يلقى المنى مما اشتهاه من القرى

O our sun, whoever comes to your door as a visitor

Finds his wishes fulfilled in the hospitality he desires.

اجعل قراي لديكم ما تشتهي

نفسي الفدى لك والجميع لك الفدى

Let my welcome among you be whatever is desired

By my soul—may I and all be your ransom.

ثم الصلاة على النبي وآله

ما دمت في كل البرية منتهى

Then blessings upon the Prophet and his family,

As long as you remain the pinnacle among all creation.
