بمغزاه فاسمع ما يقول لك الشعر
Behold, the sheikh and I—our love has spoken openly
Indeed, me and the sheikh have expressed our love
Of its intent; so hear what poetry says to you.
In its purpose, so listen to what poetry tells you
فصرحso speak openly بمنof whom تهوىyou love ودعنيand spare me منfrom الكىcautery
فصرح بمن تهوى ودعني من الكى
فلاfor there is no خيرgood فيin اللذاتpleasures منfrom دونهاbefore them سترa veil
فلا خير في اللذات من دونها ستر
So speak openly of whom you love, and spare me the cautery;
So express who you love, and spare me from sorrow
For there is no good in pleasures with a veil before them.
For there is no good in pleasures without modesty as cover
