Walk on the embers, for this is the path once trodden
On hot coals, walk, for it is the path
by those who journeyed to that sanctuary.
Trodden by those who came before.

فخاضوا إليه النّار واقتحموا الدَّما
They loved what you loved of their Lord's light,
They loved what their Lord lit for them,
so they waded through fire toward it and plunged into blood.
So they marched into fire and waded through blood.

Walk on the embers to preserve yourself, and set up
On the coals walk, vie with yourself, and make
upon them a ladder to the highest ranks.
Of them a ladder to ascend on high.

Leave the paths where flowers smile all around,
Let the roads be strewn with flowers around,
sweeping away the minds of those who preferred blindness.
And the minds of the resolute turn blind.

Walk on the embers, and through your victory reach a pinnacle
On the coals walk, attain by your opening
of glory that exhausts the toiler who braves hardship.
A pinnacle of glory that revives the toiling drudge.

Time's courier keeps carrying its voice,
May the coolness of time bear his voice
and so awakens peoples asleep to the truth,
To rouse a people slumbering from the truth.

and rouses them, mighty, their noses held high;
And waken them, the proud resolve
they rebuild what has crumbled of its edifice.
To rebuild what was destroyed.

لِمَنْ خاف عُقْبَى قومِهِ فَتَقَدَّما
Advance, lover of the faith, for all merit belongs
Let the lover of faith step forth, for all merit
to whoever feared for his people's fate and stepped forward.
Belongs to one who feared the blame of his people and stepped forth.

They are the people who guarded no honor, nor respected
They are the folk who harmed no covenants nor dishonored
a neighbor's rights, nor ever feared violating anything sacred.
Any neighborhood, nor on time's realm trespassed.

By your Lord, take them to task with stern rebukes, and assail them
By your Lord, take them with deterrents and pelt them
with what the caller to God aimed when he hurled it.
With what the caller to God took aim and cast.

وَقُلْ للذي يشكو لهيبَ حياتهِ

And tell the one who complains of his life's blaze
And say to him who complains of life's flames,
and weeps for an age of Islam that has passed away:
And weeps for Islam's bygone days,

Then take refuge in tears if you lack patience;
Toward tears turn away, if you be not patient,
and what can tears bring back, if they flow or pour down?
And what will tears avail if shed or repressed?

You stirred the soul's anxieties with the cry
You vent the soul's cares in the cry
you hurled; so be patient a little, for perhaps...
You uttered, so be patient a little, perhaps
