The way is clear, so why do we hesitate?

For an appointed time? Then when will that time come?

Those people creep under cover before us,

Like a crafty man hunting at dawn.

Where are the defenders? Are they asleep in their beds?

Or are they there in the graves, lifeless?

O people, what are you leading your country into?

Wretched is her recompense, and wretched her destination!

Wretched are the advocates; their path is crooked,

And their hapless guide stumbles time and again.

    وَلَنا المَحَجَّةُ وَالسَبيلُ الأَقصَدُ

    The trackless wilds are theirs, where they ride desire;

And ours are the clear road and the straightest path.

    وَالدَهرُ يُخبِرُ وَالمَمالِكُ شُهَّدُ

    The Nile knows, and the stands taken are clear;

And time speaks, and the kingdoms bear witness.

Has any man on earth, apart from his country,

Glory with which to adorn life, and eminence?

Are they intent on the protectorate, though something else

Is loftier and more glorious for free men?

They deceived the young with it and said, 'A blessing!'

The worst affliction is a blessing unworthy of praise.

They rush the affair, evil through and through,

While the people clamor and Kinana, the Quiver, rages.

And God watches in His mighty majesty:

Is He obeyed, or do the rebels transgress, so He is denied?

They grumble when His people devote themselves

To the pursuit of justice and the demand for integrity.

God is greatest! Is there anyone who can overcome Him

In all the worlds, and is any hand above His hand?

What might the powerful seek to do with His creation,

And the rebel desire within His dominion?

Alas for the country! Will there not rise to her aid

A party established for them, and a delegation sent forth?

    وَأَرى الرِجالَ لِغَيرِ ذَلِكَ تولَدُ

    O Egypt, bear no men after them;

And I see that men are born for something other than that.
