The scorpion of evil has gone too far in doing harm,

And harm is among the scorpion's traits.

Woe to you, Abdullah! What do you seek?

Evil has grown weary, but you are not weary yet.

Be ashamed, O son of Ubayy, and shun

Foolish judgment and an evil path.

You led astray those you filled with hope

With the rainless lightning of your counsel.

There is nothing surprising in what befell them:

A failure brought ruin upon a people of failures.

Your people, those heroes—what did they do

With the lofty fortresses? Speak; do not lie.

Do you think they, in their lofty strongholds,

    Defended Yasir or Marhab?

    ليس يَرضَى الحقُّ إن لم تَغضبِ

    Be filled with anger, O son of Ubayy;

Truth is not pleased unless you grow angry.

Does nothing, then, please you in this world except

The wrongdoer's position and the sinner's abode?

Had you been true to God in the faith of guidance,

You would have won from Him the closest bond of protection.

The believer's course is a blessing; he has

No other course or mount apart from it.

Within Islam you have, from its enemies,

The wolf's character and the fox's nature.

Thus my Lord ordained and decreed:

The foul-souled are not like the pure.
