    Thaqif, muster for al-Lat all the resolve you wish,

    and do not surrender her to pickaxes and demolition.

    Abu Sufyan came to her, striking at her very being,

    with a calamity that adds humiliation upon humiliation to unbelief.

    And indeed, al-Mughira has a resolve against her,

    that leaves the unbelievers laid low with anguish all night.

    He mounted her in his sandals and flung himself down,

    deceiving those who do not awaken from delusion.

    You thought harm had befallen him and said, 'He has suffered

    from al-Lat what deters the wayward from sin.'

    Behold, look at her—how her rocks now

    fly in fragments, the hard and the solid alike.

    فهل عندها بالمأتمِ الضخمِ من عِلْمِ

    She is torn down, and noblewomen weep for her, bareheaded;

    yet does she know anything of the great mourning gathering?

    And did she defend her spoils when she was struck by

    a messenger of guidance, gaining booty upon booty?

    His is as much of the unbelievers' blood as his Lord wills,

    and of their wealth, without oppression or injustice.

    They are oppression, blameworthy injustice, and harm,

    and every hideous fault and reproach there is.

    Islam's dome rose high, and its army grew mighty,

    with honor in full measure and abundant eminence.

    وهل يستحِبُّ الجهلَ من كان ذا حِلْمِ

    It is the faith, not the faith of ignorance and blindness;

    and would anyone of sound judgment prefer ignorance?

    فما لسِواهُ من قضاءٍ ولا حُكمِ

    God decreed that people worship none but Him;

    so decree and judgment belong to none besides Him.

    And none but one who disparaged His faith

    and turned away from Him is His enemy or adversary.

    He will burn him in a fire whose heat cooks the skin,

    and consumes the flesh and bone on Judgment Day.
