Speak on, sons of Egypt, you deaf and blind!
O my people of Egypt, deaf and blind,
The anguished one cried out, and the captive's cry arose.
The passionate one roared and the scream of the oppressed arose,

And gather with deaf ears and minds?

Death's gesture stood clear in its heading,
The gesture of death in its title became clear
and none signals through a heading more eloquently than death.
And death is more eloquent than my lamentation of its title.

Weigh matters justly, for injustice is ruinous,
and the fairest of people judges with a balance.
And the most just people are those who judge with the scales.

A young man of the Nile, neither unjust nor biased,
you repaid your people forgetting for forgetting.
You rewarded your people with forgetfulness for forgetfulness.
