Say to the minister, when his face is turned to you alone,

And his ear listens intently to you, then inclines:

What affairs have you shouldered for a nation

That has borne the heavy calamities of time?

You are the leader in governance and will,

And the whole Wafd in form and likeness.

Have you seen among the people you have known

Anyone who does not want independence for his people?

And have you found in those kingdoms a nation

Content with ruin as its outcome and end?

And have you known among its leaders anyone who does not deem

The peoples' endurance of humiliation impossible?

Say to those who bought protection: Enough!

Will you then buy harm and punishment for us?

If you reject men's judgment, then consult

Women about it, and appoint children as judges.

    فَدَعوا التَعَصُّبَ وَاِسأَلوا الجُهّالا

    You have opposed the scholars over its interpretation;

So abandon prejudice and ask the ignorant.

You conceal the back-breaking disaster, though it has appeared,

Driving calamities onward and arousing terrors.

It gazed at the pyramids, which seemed to be

The pillar of time; then they were shaken by a quake.

Pharaoh, your dominion lies in a bird's two wings,

That mastered the worlds in ascent and range.

Raise your wing and set out in its wake,

And gain on it by ages and generations.

    فَاِجمَع حُماتَكَ وَاِبعَثِ الأَبطالا

    It gathered defenders around it in every sky;

So gather your defenders and send forth the heroes.

It grasped al-Simak and reached al-Suha's station,

And I see you farther beyond grasp and reach.

Resolves leap from you into the blood of a nation

That refuses compromise until its blood gushes in bucketfuls.

For kingdoms, if they encounter compromise

Amid calamities, have indeed encountered ruin.
