بَنِيO sons of الإِسلامِIslam إقداماadvance!
بَنِي الإِسلامِ إقداما
كَفَىenough دَعَةًease وإحجاماand holding back
كَفَى دَعَةً وإحجاما
O sons of Islam, advance!
O children of Islam, proceed boldly
Enough of ease and holding back!
Enough of weakness and holding back
هَلُمُّواcome نَرْفَعُlet us raise الهاماheads
هَلُمُّوا نَرْفَعُ الهاما
أَنَقْضِيshall we spend الدّهرَa lifetime نُوَّاماasleep
أَنَقْضِي الدّهرَ نُوَّاما
Come, let us raise our heads!
Come let us raise our aspirations
Shall we spend our lives asleep?
And not spend our lives sleeping
علىalong الآثارِthe footsteps فانطلِقُواso set forth
على الآثارِ فانطلِقُوا
إلىtoward المُختارِthe Chosen One فاسْتَبِقواso race ahead
إلى المُختارِ فاسْتَبِقوا
Set forth, then, in those footsteps;
Set out on the trails
Toward the Chosen One, race ahead!
And race towards the Chosen One
لَكُمْfor you فيin سعْيِكمyour striving طُرُقُpaths
لَكُمْ في سعْيِكم طُرُقُ
تَبُثُّspread النُّورَthe light أعلاماas beacons
تَبُثُّ النُّورَ أعلاما
There are paths for you in your striving
You have ways on your journey
That spread light as beacons.
That spread light like flags
سَلُواask القومَthe people الأُلَىwho ذَهَبواhave gone before
سَلُوا القومَ الأُلَى ذَهَبوا
بأيّةِby what قُوَّةٍstrength غَلَبواthey prevailed
بأيّةِ قُوَّةٍ غَلَبوا
Ask the people who have gone before
Ask the accomplished people where they went
By what strength they prevailed.
With what power they prevailed
أَقامواthey established الحقَّjustice فانْتُدِبواso they were appointed
أَقاموا الحقَّ فانْتُدِبوا
لأهلِfor the people of الأرضِthe earth حُكّاماas rulers
لأهلِ الأرضِ حُكّاما
They established justice and so were appointed
They established truth so be inspired
As rulers for the people of the earth.
To be rulers for the people of the earth
أُولُوpossessors of السُّلطانِpower والخَطَرِand eminence
أُولُو السُّلطانِ والخَطَرِ
علىover التِّيجانthe crowns والسرُرِand the thrones
على التِّيجان والسرُرِ
Possessors of power and eminence
The ones with authority and danger
Over crowns and thrones,
Upon the crowns and thrones
أبَوْاthey refused فيin غيرِthe absence of ماemphatic particle أشَرِarrogance
أبَوْا في غيرِ ما أشَرِ
سوىother than الأملاكِkings خُدّاماas servants
سوى الأملاكِ خُدّاما
They refused, without arrogance,
Refused, without guidance
Any servants other than kings.
To be servants of kingdoms
رَمَوْاthey struck بالبأسِwith might مُحْتَدِماraging
رَمَوْا بالبأسِ مُحْتَدِما
قَضَوْاthey judged بالسَّيفِwith the sword مُحْتكِماas arbiter
قَضَوْا بالسَّيفِ مُحْتكِما
They struck with raging might;
They battled with raging might
They judged with the sword as arbiter.
Judging with the decisive sword
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle خَاصَمَit contended with الأُمَماthe nations
إذا ما خَاصَمَ الأُمَما
مَضَىit went on نَقْضاًundoing وإبراماand confirming
مَضَى نَقْضاً وإبراما
When it contended with the nations,
Whenever the nations disputed
It went on, undoing and confirming.
Progressing and contracting
نَهضْناwe have risen نَتْبَعُwe follow السَّنَناthe established ways
نَهضْنا نَتْبَعُ السَّنَنا
وَنَحمِيand we protect الدِّينَthe faith والوَطَناand the homeland
وَنَحمِي الدِّينَ والوَطَنا
We have risen to follow the established ways
We rise to follow our ways
And protect the faith and the homeland.
And protect the religion and homeland
بَذَلْنَاwe have offered الرُّوحَthe soul والبَدَناand the body
بَذَلْنَا الرُّوحَ والبَدَنا
فِدىًas a sacrifice لهماfor them both وإكراماand in honor
فِدىً لهما وإكراما
We have offered soul and body
We sacrificed our soul and body
As a sacrifice for both, and in their honor.
As ransom and honor for them
هُماthey both رَمْزُthe symbol of الحَياةِlife معاtogether
هُما رَمْزُ الحَياةِ معا
فإنْfor if ذَهَباthey both are gone مَضَتْit passes away تَبَعاin their wake
فإنْ ذَهَبا مَضَتْ تَبَعا
Together, they are the symbol of life;
They are the symbol of life together
For if they are gone, life goes in their wake.
If they go both will go
وَمَنْand whoever لمhas not يَرْعَobserved ماwhat شَرَعاthey both ordained
وَمَنْ لم يَرْعَ ما شَرَعا
فماthen not صَلَّىhe prayed ولاnor صاماhe fasted
فما صَلَّى ولا صاما
And whoever does not observe what both ordained
And whoever does not tend what is decreed
Has neither prayed nor fasted.
Has not prayed or fasted
