ولن يَجدَ الباغي على البغي ناصرا
O sons of Amir, turn Amir away from evil.
O Bani Amir, refrain from evil, fully refrain
And the aggressor will find no helper in aggression.
The transgressor will find no helper against transgression

He found favor in Arbad's soul, and sought
He who desires ruin for himself has fallen in love
a deed that would baffle the risk-taking armored warrior.
With that which exhausts the gambler in his undertaking

He came with a plot inevitably doomed to fail,
He came with a plan that was inevitably doomed
and the most thwarted of evildoers is the schemer.
And the evil-doers were disappointed, however much they schemed

I ask you, was the leader of the delegation really one of them
O sons of Amir, any but a sinner and a wicked man?
Bani Amir, other than a sinner and a reprobate?

The two resolved to seize the lion in his lair,
They intended to catch the lion unawares
unawares—and ignorance blinds inward sight.
In foolishness, while ignorance blinds the sights

What can a sword do if it had the power?

God willed only to exalt His Messenger,
God refused except to honor His Messenger
and whoever sought to harm him would return abased.
And render him who wishes him evil humiliated

Ignorantly, he obeyed his desire and met him alone,
He obeyed his passions ignorantly, and so he remained
trying to deceive him so he might see blood surging.
Deceiving him so that he might see blood spilled

Do you ask him, O Ibn Al-Tufayl, for the caliphate
and hope to be called the partner with an equal share?
And hope to be called an equal partner?

Were you a man whose soul had found peace?

Have been granted abundant guidance and bounty from God

And leave Amir to be struck down by disease miserable
and Arbad to meet his doom, disgraced and defeated.
And Arbad to meet his death disgraced and failed

So his strength was reduced, for he was an unbeliever

He hurled it at him, fiery, such that if unleashed
upon a mountain, that mountain would have crumbled and sunk into the earth.
Upon a mountain it would be swallowed into the earth

Amir, driven by a trait of the Age of Ignorance, refused
Amir refused, out of Jahili arrogance
to meet death at the home of the woman he had come to visit.
To meet his doom from she who came visiting

He says, "They have obeyed me," and "Death in my dwelling

On which to meet my obstinate death

He will see nothing in this life as harmful

Indeed, in what Arbad said there was one who warned
against evil—if an evil man would fear a warning.
Against evil, if the evil-doer had heeded the warner

perishes, while He remains, supreme in might, all-subduing.
Who prevails and endures, compelling and supreme
