O Martyr's Day, you have returned most auspiciously,
On the martyr's day you returned, O commander, to the noblest abode,
And dawned most happily among all days.
And rose in the days, the happiest rising.
غَيَّضتَyou dried up عَبْرَةَtear كُلِّevery عَينٍeye ثَرَّةٍstreaming
وشَفَيْتَand you healed لَوعةَanguish كلِّevery قَلبٍheart مُوجَعِaching
You dried the tears of every streaming eye,
You dried the flowing tears of every weeping eye,
And healed the anguish of every aching heart.
And healed the agony of every aching heart.
وَدَّعْتناyou bade us farewell جَمَّmany الجِراحِwounds مُروَّعاًterror-stricken

وَلَقِيتَناand you met us جذلانَjoyful غيرَnot مُروَّعِterror-stricken
You bade us farewell, bearing many wounds and stricken with terror,
You bid us farewell, wounded all over,
And met us joyful and unafraid,
And met us dignified, no more terrified.

In a beloved procession of lofty majesty,
In a lofty, endearing procession,
Toward which the eager beholder's heart yearns.
To which the aspirations of the ambitious soar.

You are resplendent in a crown surpassing the midmorning sun,
Adorned with a crown, lit by the morning sun,
Gleaming and studded with the martyr's blood,
Studded with the martyr's blood, resplendent.

Your thirst slaked by justice and freedom;
Imbued with truth and freedom,
And justice is the sweetest watering place for those who come to drink.
And for the loyal, truth is the sweetest hope.

Egypt greeted you, full of longing, and looked about,
Egypt hailed you yearningly and turned
To behold her martyr's majesty where he fell.
To see the majesty of her martyr in the deathbed.

Joyfully she called to him, “Where are you?”—and was startled
She called him, where are you? She was startled
By a voice answering from the loftiest station:
By a voice answering from the Highest Station.

In the most honorable position and noblest place.
In the most exalted station and the noblest place.
Which no ambition can ever attain.

He is here in everlasting bliss—
And with God, no truth is ever wasted.
By God, how one longs for its like!
The youth of the Nile, your efforts

He is here, O Egypt, being granted his due,
Were weakened by his loss, but did not split.
And no right is ever lost in God's keeping.

He is here, guarding your banner—so look!
Had you not joined forces, it would not have united.
He is here, singing of you—so listen!

Bravo, youth of the Nile! Such are your efforts:
And united passions after reluctance.
They jealously guarded its unity, so it did not splinter.
There were chaotic forces, some partisan
أنتمyou جَمعتمْyou gathered لِلقضيَّةِfor the cause جَبهةًa front

You yourselves assembled a front for the cause;
Each going his own way, some sectarian
But for the order in your ranks, it would not have been formed.
A war that harmed the community, and an ordeal

You united the leaders after their division,
That afflicted the country with every tribulation.
And mastered passions after their resistance.
You achieved Egypt's independence, which

There were forces in chaos: some were party partisans,

Pursuing their own goals, and others factional adherents.
We have enacted for secularism its law,

رَمَتِassailed البلادَthe land بِكلِّwith every خَطبٍcalamity مُفزعِterrifying
War harmed the populace, and strife
Abolishing the law that was never legislated.
Assailed the land with every terrifying calamity.
The law of philosophers who imagined

You rescued Egypt's independence, even as it
That we are objects, unable to feel or perceive.
Was stretching out in fear the right hand of one bidding farewell.
Today we rise with a clear proof

Indeed, we ordained her creed for al-Kinana, the Quiver,
That refutes the claims of the claimant.
So it put an end to the creed that had not been ordained—

The creed of the philosophers who imagined
That we are lifeless matter, neither feeling nor comprehending.

Today we rise triumphant, with a proof
Shining white, refuting the claimant's absurdities.
