    O banner of struggle, a young man salutes you,

    who shelters beneath you when he advances to strike.

    Flutter over the army, by whose weapons

    all that is held sacred is defended, and the assailant repelled.

    وَضَحُ السَبيلُ بِهِ وَبانَ المَذهَبُ

    You shone as a star amid the darkness of calamities;

    by it the path grew clear, and the way became plain.

    Egypt glimpsed you, and so you saw her hopes

    walking the straight path and striving tirelessly.

    She saw you rising in battle, and looked up

    joyfully toward you, and came forward, watching expectantly.

    In her cause, yours are the stands of a valiant man,

    whom no foe deceives, and who is never defeated.

    A free man who keeps faith with her and sees no

    goal to pursue other than her demand.

    He imposed withdrawal on the enemy; he has no

    way to retreat from it, nor any change of course.

    Is it a mark of honor to abase ourselves before a usurper,

    at whose hands the land suffers and is stricken?

    وَنَئِنُّ مِن أَلَمِ الجِراحِ فَيَغضَبُ

    We seek life, and he becomes frantic with fear;

    and we groan from the pain of wounds, and he grows angry.

    Indeed, whoever claimed that civilization is a scourge

    which the strong hurl at the weak is surely lying.

    In ease and freedom, people

    are like birds set free, coming and going.

    لا النَفسُ تَنزِعُها وَلا هِيَ تُسلَبُ

    This is the innate nature God, the Generous, gave His creatures;

    the soul does not cast it off, nor is it taken away.

    God has forbidden every abomination, so no

    nation may be sold, nor any land given away.
