أَباO father of الحُسَينِal-Husayn تَقَدَّمstep forward غَيرَwithout مُعتَذِرٍapologizing
أَبا الحُسَينِ تَقَدَّم غَيرَ مُعتَذِرٍ
إِذاwhen تَقَدَّمَstepped forward بَعضُsome of القَومِthe people يَعتَذِرُmakes excuses
إِذا تَقَدَّمَ بَعضُ القَومِ يَعتَذِرُ
O Abu al-Husayn, step forward without apology,
Abu al-Husayn, you came forward without apologizing
when some among the people step forward making excuses.
When some people come forward, they apologize
وَقَفتَyou stood فَاِنسابَthen flowed forth يَجريflowing صَيِّبٌa downpour ذَهَبٌgold
وَقَفتَ فَاِنسابَ يَجري صَيِّبٌ ذَهَبٌ
مِمّاfrom what بَذَلتَyou gave وَتَهميand pours down ديمَةٌa steady rain دُرَرُpearls
مِمّا بَذَلتَ وَتَهمي ديمَةٌ دُرَرُ
You stood, and a downpour of gold streamed forth
You stood still while lineage was flowing, a stream of gold
from what you gave, and a steady rain of pearls poured down.
From what you have given, and the bounty is a string of pearls
جودٌgenerosity تَدَفَّقَgushed forth حَتّىuntil عَجَّroared زاخِرُهُits swelling flood
جودٌ تَدَفَّقَ حَتّى عَجَّ زاخِرُهُ
وَمَنطِقٌand speech راعَinspired awe حَتّىuntil ضَجَّتِcried out الزُمَرُthe throngs
وَمَنطِقٌ راعَ حَتّى ضَجَّتِ الزُمَرُ
Generosity gushed until its swelling flood roared,
Generosity has flowed until its spring was exhausted
and speech inspired awe until the throngs cried out;
And eloquence has quenched thirst until gatherings roared
حَمِيَّةٌzeal ماnot دَرىknew الأَقوامُthe peoples مَوضِعهاits seat
حَمِيَّةٌ ما دَرى الأَقوامُ مَوضِعها
وَلاand not رَأىsaw مِثلَهاits like فيin مَشهَدٍan assembly عُمَرُUmar
وَلا رَأى مِثلَها في مَشهَدٍ عُمَرُ
a zeal whose seat the peoples never knew,
Ardor that people do not know where it is from
nor did Umar see its like in any assembly.
Nor has life seen its like in any gathering
