Love for you, love for you—and the world has its affairs;
Your love, your love, while the world has concerns,
And passions, at times, fall still.
And for young men, a time of tranquility.

Events and nights toss me about,
Events and nights disturb me,
But my love for you is shielded from their changes.
While your love is protected from their turmoil.

You thought otherwise—that my tears had run dry,
You thought that my tears had flowed for another,
And that yearning and longing had subsided.
And that yearning and sorrow had calmed.

Patience - the most wretched love is a love
Through whose corners suspicions have crept.
That suspicion has crept into its sides.

Before me, sleeplessness had wearied a people,
So neither hearts nor eyes held true.
Yet neither hearts nor eyes grew tired.

A sound mind would surely dispel my turmoil,
A sensible intellect would unveil my confusion.

A love through which enduring honor is built.
Except a love on which sturdy honor is built.

Misfortunes grow slight, but it does not abase itself.
That cares not if events do not care.

Dreadful things that are humbled and submit.
Fears that are humbled and submit.

Certainty ignites from your crown.

The scholars went astray, so morals were chaos -
Unbridled, neither turning back nor yielding.
Savages that neither herded nor gentled.

Kingdoms are not kept for vanities
When licentiousness and debauchery direct them.
That are steered by depravity and immorality.

And if the shepherds betray, none is trustworthy.
And if the shepherds betray, there is no trustee.

Shepherded by a fat shepherd.

Their ignorance lost the East,
By a hidden disease born of their ignorance.
And an endemic disease destroyed it.

Souls that scorn admonitions.
That took prohibitions lightly.

So glory was lost and the den was plundered.

I guarantee it a destroyed life.

They circle restlessly, while you have flowing water.
Twisting in yearning, and you are the plentiful water.

That filled us with shame and spilled disgrace.

Sufficient for you is the jesting of past times.
