Sons of Murrah, settle your affair before Ghalib comes,

and taste those men's doom, from each warrior who sets forth.

Bashir ibn Sa'd and those who suffered

your harm have assailed you with mighty, indomitable champions.

You knew not the recompense of oppression; oppression is a mount

for the ignorant, its ill omen harming every rider.

Take it as a just recompense from the hand of God,

destroying every one of you, pleased or angry.

heedless of blood vengeance, though the edges of keen blades sleep.

It is blood; nothing else can cure ignorance

when varied experience has proved useless against it.

you fastened upon those powers and binding ties:

thus a pledge upon a steadfast pledge from God,

and fellowship upon enduring fellowship born of faith.

A brother to a brother rich in loyalty, and a companion

true in affection, who honors his duty to his friend.

the troops the code of the armored warrior!

You assailed the archers with the sword, which hurled

nothing but death from the hands of every striker.

It made them drink death's brew from every noble warrior

through whose flowing blood death coursed unmixed.

For the forbearing man is the fine reward he seeks,

and for the deluded fool, an evil outcome.

You won it, O twin of victory, as a twin

to the glory you attained, enduring through the ages.

Yours was a celebrated day at al-Kadid,

telling of a man in earnest, not at play.

How splendid it was, that battle of Ghalib's!

And what a day, glorious in its noble deeds!
