جويريةُJuwayriyah احمديgive thanks for عُقبَىthe outcome of البناءِmarriage consummation
جويريةُ احمدي عُقبَى البناءِ
بَنَىconsummated marriage بكِwith you خيرُthe best of مَنthose تحتbeneath السّماءِthe sky
بَنَى بكِ خيرُ مَن تحت السّماءِ
Juwayriyah, give thanks for the outcome of your marriage:
the best of all beneath the sky has wed you.
بلغتِyou reached بهthrough him ذؤابةthe summit of كلevery عالٍlofty thing
بلغتِ به ذؤابة كل عالٍ
منof الشرفhonor الممنّعunassailable والسّناءand glory
من الشرف الممنّع والسّناء
Through him you reached the summit of all that is lofty
in unassailable honor and glory.
وكنتِand you were لقومكto your people الأدنينclosest يمناًa blessing
وكنتِ لقومك الأدنين يمناً
يريهمit shows them يُمنthe blessing of خيرthe best of الأنبياءthe prophets
يريهم يُمن خير الأنبياء
And you were a blessing to your closest kin,
showing them the blessing of the best of prophets.
فكمfor how many أسرىcaptives فككتِyou freed وكمand how many سباياcaptive women
فكم أسرى فككتِ وكم سبايا
رددتِyou returned إلىto الخدورِsecluded chambers بلاwithout فداءransom
رددتِ إلى الخدورِ بلا فداء
How many captive men you freed, and how many captive women
you restored to their secluded chambers without ransom!
محرِّرةَO liberator of الرقابnecks (slaves) كفاكsuffices you فضلاًas merit
محرِّرةَ الرقاب كفاك فضلاً
صنيعكyour kindness بالرجالto men وبالنساءand to women
صنيعك بالرجال وبالنساء
O you who freed necks from bondage, sufficient merit for you
is your kindness to men and women.
كشفتyou lifted الضرّsuffering عنهمfrom them بعدafter يأسٍdespair
كشفت الضرّ عنهم بعد يأسٍ
وأحييتand you revived الرميمdecayed remains منof الرجاءhope
وأحييت الرميم من الرجاء
You lifted their suffering after despair,
and brought hope’s decayed remains back to life.
توالىfollowed one another المسلمونthe Muslims علىalong سبيلa path
توالى المسلمون على سبيل
منof الكرمِgenerosity المحبّبendearing والسّخاءand openhandedness
من الكرمِ المحبّب والسّخاء
The Muslims followed one another along a path
of endearing generosity and openhandedness.
لأجلكfor your sake آثرواthey preferred البُقْياclemency وقالواand they said
لأجلك آثروا البُقْيا وقالوا
عليناupon us العهدُthe pledge عهدُthe pledge of الأوفياءthe faithful
علينا العهدُ عهدُ الأوفياء
For your sake they chose clemency, and said:
“The pledge binds us—the pledge of the faithful.
أمَنْis one whom وصلjoined in kinship النَّبيُّthe Prophet فكانand so became صهراًkin by marriage
أمَنْ وصل النَّبيُّ فكان صهراً
كمنقطعٍlike one cut off منamong الأقوامِthe tribes ناءfar away
كمنقطعٍ من الأقوامِ ناء
Is one whom the Prophet has made his kin by marriage
like someone cut off and distant among the tribes?
خذواtake ياO قومpeople أنفسكمyourselves وعودواand return
خذوا يا قوم أنفسكم وعودوا
إلىto أوطانكمyour homelands بعدafter الجلاءexile
إلى أوطانكم بعد الجلاء
Take back your freedom, O people, and return
to your homelands after exile.”
سَمَوْاthey rose بنفوسهمwith themselves وبنيand the sons of أبيهمtheir father
سَمَوْا بنفوسهم وبني أبيهم
إلىto دينthe faith of المروءةchivalry والإباءand noble pride
إلى دين المروءة والإباء
They raised themselves and their father’s sons
to the faith of chivalry and noble pride.
ورَدَّand ended اللَّهGod غُربتَهمtheir exile وفازواand they won
ورَدَّ اللَّه غُربتَهم وفازوا
بنعمتهwith His grace فنعمَso excellent are ذووthose possessing العلاءeminence
بنعمته فنعمَ ذوو العلاء
And God ended their exile, and they won
His grace—how excellent are those of high rank!
هوit is الإسلامُIslam ماnot للنفسfor the soul عنهwithout it
هو الإسلامُ ما للنفس عنه
إذاif ابتغتِit seeks السّلامةَsafety منany غناءِability to do without
إذا ابتغتِ السّلامةَ من غناءِ
It is Islam: the soul cannot do without it
if it seeks safety.
نظامُthe order of الأرضِthe earth يدفعwards off كلَّevery شرٍّevil
نظامُ الأرضِ يدفع كلَّ شرٍّ
وَطِبُّand the medicine of القومِthe people ينزعroots out كلّevery داءdisease
وَطِبُّ القومِ ينزع كلّ داء
It is the earth’s order, warding off every evil,
and the people’s medicine, rooting out every disease.
إذاif انصرفتturn away شعوبthe peoples of الأرضthe earth عنهfrom it
إذا انصرفت شعوب الأرض عنه
فبشّرْthen give glad tidings to كلَّevery شعبٍnation بالشقاءof misery
فبشّرْ كلَّ شعبٍ بالشقاء
If the peoples of the earth turn away from it,
then give every nation glad tidings of misery.
