Do you wage war on God in His might,

or plot against a nation that cannot be deceived?

It has fixed its resolve on its independence,

and pressed toward its goal, trotting and galloping.

It does not doubt the truth it seeks, nor

turn its reins toward falsehood that does no good.

Indeed, events—may you be fatherless!—have taught

whoever did not know which party to follow.

Today he does what the worlds cannot contain—

he who yesterday would say, 'What shall we do?'

The herald of struggle is blood coursing through your body,

and its weapon is a breath that comes and goes.

And the earth is a vast arena for your resolve,

and yours is the loftiest place to soar in the sky.

No adventurer's arena in this world has ever narrowed

without a wider arena tossing him about.

Never be alarmed when a calamity looms:

    men's resolves tower above calamities.
