    The telegraph reports far-spreading evil,

And bitter discord among our leaders.

And sometimes it claims there is nothing

Beyond the course the leader has resolved upon.

Whether they differ or agree, we

    Want nothing but Egypt's independence.

It is the right toward which we strive,

And while we live, we shall not turn from it.

If Egypt's independence is not safeguarded,

Then neither Saad nor Said shall be obeyed.

The people's hope—no parties can help,

If it is lost tomorrow, nor can delegations.

We obey those who work, and sacrifice ourselves for them,

And support them when the threat grows fierce.

If they seek refuge, we are their fortresses,

And if they advance, we are their soldiers.

With our backs and our hands together,

Mustafa fortified himself, and Farid fired.

By your life, the testaments will not betray those two,

Nor the obligations kept inviolate and the covenants.

We have preserved them for Egypt—and what people

Can prevail if what it holds sacred is lost?

Treasures of greatness and a heritage of honor,

And imperishable sovereignty for Egypt, the Quiver.

So for anyone sincere in loving Egypt,

Love holds neither denial nor ingratitude.

I disown whoever is deceitful in loving her,

And anyone who offers neither help nor benefit.
