For you, O martyr of truth, the mourning assembly has convened.

And I deem it right that the festival be held.

A wedding granted us, with no cause for misgiving

In a wedding through whose quarters blood flows.

Every battle-hardened warrior plunges for victory.

He teaches you the lesson with his blood, so be

Among those who grasp the intended meaning and understand.

    فاذهبْ فما في الصّالحين مُذَمَّمُ

    You are the slain one if you live in disgrace;

So go: none among the righteous is blameworthy.

How noble the martyrs! Their elder was brought down

By a people with a most ill-omened chief in oppression.

Spearheads and swords slumber, yet he takes vengeance.

Amid crushing calamity and mounting disaster.

Is bitter; his taste is more bitter and more repellent.

And slipped into its depths, blazing.

Was Arab pride, which neither grays nor grows decrepit.

They killed him, staunch defender of honor, a hope

For plundered rights and an oppressed clan.

    دَمُهُ الزكيُّ مُفَسِّرٌ ومُتَرْجِمُ

    Let them not proclaim justice or its meaning;

His pure blood is an expositor and interpreter.

The apostles of civilization—their gospel makes

The Gospel of Jesus and the firmly established Book cry out.

Is he who sheds blood honored and feared,

While he who repels affliction does wrong and sins?

Of what do the noble apostles boast? A civilization

Foolish and depraved, and a criminal science.

Processions rise high, while truth is defeated.

All the Arab nations are in pain.

With which the Abode of Peace is pelted and stoned.

It was at what made al-Hatim and Zamzam shudder.

And the Prophet walked, proclaiming God's oneness and smiling.

A free man in whom He exalts and honors truth.

Nations whose meals are slumbering peoples.

Patience, and her age-old zeal for honor returned.

Of what brings countries reproach and stigma.

The caliphs' legacy—her soil shall never be defiled

By filth branded for her with sword edges.

A wandering whose consequences are more harmful and ill-omened.

Now gathered and organized by his hand.

Yet the people are doomed; their breach cannot be mended.

Like a widespread disease, it has all gathered

In one place, from which it is uprooted and cut off.

We shall surely prevent our lands from becoming

Plunder for every troublemaker who attacks.

    شرُّ الشُّعوبِ العاجزُ المُسْتَسْلِمُ

    We will not allow the surrenderers their way;

The worst of peoples is the helpless one who surrenders.

May he who kept the trust and was pious cease to be,

If he who refuses treachery sins.
