O ʿUkāshah, no one remains behind in al-Ghamr;
Ukasha, none left behind at the battle
Al-Ghamr is empty of its inhabitants and lies desolate.
Except the battle stripped of its settlers

وغُودِرَ وَحْشاً خالياً ليس يُعمَرُ
Its people warned one another of your swords and fled,
Their swords warned them so they departed
And it was left desolate, empty, uninhabited.
It was abandoned desolate, uninhabited

Take the sheep and the fat camels, for they
Take the sheep and branded camels
Are bound for an appointed end, with no stopping short of it:
For they are delayed to an appointed time

Either the sanctuary of Islam, or a keen sword’s edge,
Either the protection of Islam or the edge of a sharp sword
Along whose blade their blood gushes forth.
Upon their backs blood flows forth

O ʿUkāshah, return with the troops, not disappointed;
Ukasha, return with the army without discouragement
It is disgrace enough for those people to flee and turn their backs.
It is enough humiliation for the people that they flee and retreat
لِكُلِّfor every امرئٍman منfrom نفسِهِhis own soul ماwhat تَودُّهُit desires it
لِكُلِّ امرئٍ من نفسِهِ ما تَودُّهُ
وماand whatever يكُmay be منof شيءٍa thing فربُّكَthen your Lord أكبَرُis greater
وما يكُ من شيءٍ فربُّكَ أكبَرُ
Each man has from his own soul what it desires;
For everything a person loves in himself
And whatever may be, your Lord is greater.
And whatever thing that happens your Lord is Greater

To Him belong religion, this world, and what comes after it;
To Him belongs the religion, worldly life and what comes after it
So nothing exists except what He wills and decrees.
So there is nothing except what He wills and determines
