We forget; brotherhood draws us back, so we remember.

And love is folded within hearts and unfolded.

Indeed, by the lives of those who reproach us for love,

we regard alike those who blame and those who excuse.

We please our loved ones; beyond them we pay no heed

to the whims of those who are pleased and those who grumble.

O you who try to change our covenant,

look at faith: does it change?

Time bears witness, as do events, that we

prefer nothing but loyalty to our people.

Our closest brothers—what unites us is

a most faithful covenant and a pledge never violated.

O people of the Gospel, we are a nation,

one in Egypt, for whoever reflects.

It has grown up under everlasting covenants; ceaselessly

centuries pass with them, and ages come.

If you were to ask—and there is no doubt in us

about the brotherhood we hold within and reveal—

al-Faruq would answer you on our behalf, and forward would step

Amr, telling you the certain truth and making it known.

    لَبَّيكِ في الحَقِّ الَّذي لا يُنكَرُ

    I answer your call as a caller appealing for brotherhood;

I answer your call in the truth that cannot be denied.

    أَنتِ الحَياةُ لِكُلِّ نَفسٍ تَشعُرُ

    I answer your call, Egypt: we all obey you;

you are life to every soul that feels.

The festivals, when we celebrate them, are not unaware

that the hoped-for tomorrow is a greater festival.
