Tell your guests, when their gathering witnesses

the generosity of peoples adorning the people of the Nile,

    that al-Kinana's hope hovers nowhere

    but over her longed-for independence.

You are civilization's envoys to her, so bear witness:

The path is clear, and every proof stands established.

Relate the story to the kingdoms, and cleave

with truth's radiance the gloom of deception.

Indeed, judgment against peoples, striking them

in their fullest right, is surely unworthy.

How unjust are whims! Their judgment runs wild

and sees the path of justice as the worst of paths.

Do not wrong the pens; their path is

aid for the weak and support for the forsaken.

The worst of crimes is for their guilty perpetrator to inscribe

crimson pages with the blood of the slain.

Do not take politics by the hand, for it

shoots at kingdoms from the hands of Azrael.

It ruled, but did not do justice to Jesus, nor obey

God's decree handed down in the Gospel.

It built thrones upon blood, but it did not endure—

that massive edifice—for more than a little while.

Injustice sweeps away the Caesars; behold

how many a crown and diadem it has destroyed!

Indeed, the case is as you know it; so judge

it with the judgment of the truthful and just.
