ياO رَبِّmy Lord ضاقَgrew straitened الأَمرُthe situation وَاِشتَدَّand intensified الفَزَعْterror
يا رَبِّ ضاقَ الأَمرُ وَاِشتَدَّ الفَزَعْ
وَهالَناand appalled us مِنَof البَلاياthe calamities ماwhat وَقَعْbefell
وَهالَنا مِنَ البَلايا ما وَقَعْ
O my Lord, the situation has grown dire and terror has intensified.
O Lord, affairs have become straitened and distress intense,
And the calamities that struck have appalled us.
And we have been overwhelmed by calamities that have befallen.
وَجاشَتand seethed الأَنفُسُthe souls مِنfrom فَرطِexcess of الجَزَعْanguish
وَجاشَت الأَنفُسُ مِن فَرطِ الجَزَعْ
وَخانَهاand failed them إِلّاexcept إِلَيكَto You المُطَّلَعْthe way out
وَخانَها إِلّا إِلَيكَ المُطَّلَعْ
And souls have seethed with overwhelming anguish.
The souls have been turbulent due to intense grief,
And every way out has failed them, save the way to You.
And none is revealed to except You.
وَهَلand is there لَهاfor them دونَكَbesides You مَولىًa protector يُنتَجَعْto be sought out
وَهَل لَها دونَكَ مَولىً يُنتَجَعْ
إِذاwhen وَهَىgrew weak حَبلُthe cord الرَجاءِof hope فَاِنقَطَعْthen snapped
إِذا وَهَى حَبلُ الرَجاءِ فَاِنقَطَعْ
And have they any protector besides You to turn to
And who else can be their protector besides You,
When hope's cord has weakened and then snapped?
When the rope of hope has broken?
إِنَّindeed العَدُوَّthe enemy راعَناterrified us بِماby what صَنَعْhe did
إِنَّ العَدُوَّ راعَنا بِما صَنَعْ
فَأَعوَزَso eluded الأَمنُsafety النُفوسَthe souls وَاِمتَنَعْand became unattainable
فَأَعوَزَ الأَمنُ النُفوسَ وَاِمتَنَعْ
Indeed, the enemy has terrified us by what he has done.
Indeed the enemy has frightened us with what he has done,
So safety has eluded the souls and become unattainable.
So safety has become scarce for souls and difficult.
ياO رَبِّmy Lord فَرِّقscatter مِنof قُواهُhis forces ماwhat جَمَعْhe gathered
يا رَبِّ فَرِّق مِن قُواهُ ما جَمَعْ
O my Lord, scatter the forces he has gathered.
O Lord, disperse what he has gathered of his strength.
