أَمسِكhold back عَلَيكَto yourself الصَوتَthe voice حَتّىuntil يَسمَعواthey hear
O you who call, yet cannot make them hear,
O you who call though none gives ear,
Keep your voice to yourself until they listen.
Restrain your voice till listening they draw near.

They know the truth; so advise others,
They know the truth; make you straight the path for others;
If this counsel is of any use.
If such advice some benefit will confer.

Are you relied upon in the country's affairs,
On you the land's affairs depend, on you
And turned to when events grow grave?
In grave events its issues will devolve.
هَوِّنtake it easy عَلَيكَon yourself فَفيfor in البِلادِthe country مَدارِهٌeloquent spokesmen

Take it easy: the country has eloquent spokesmen
With patience meet whate'er therein may chance,
Who put forward their argument, which cannot be refuted.
With arguments that can be set aside by none.
لاdo not تَمنَعَنَّever defend مِنَagainst العَدُوِّthe enemy ذِمارَهاits honor
إِنَّindeed الذِمارَhonor بِغَيرِwithout بأسِكَyour might يُمنَعُis defended
Do not defend its honor against the enemy;
Seek not their voices to restrain whose wont
For its honor is defended without your might.
Is enmity; by other means are voices quelled.
إِنَّindeed العَدُوَّthe enemy أَحَبُّdearer مِمَّنthan those whom تَصطَفيyou favor
وَأَجَلُّand greater شَأناًin standing فيin النُفوسِsouls وَأَرفَعُand more exalted
Indeed, the enemy is dearer than those you favor,
Better than friend is enemy in spirit high,
And greater in souls' esteem, and more exalted.
Nobler in soul, and loftier in renown.

The people who have rebelled are not unaware
They who rebelled know well that ne'er to them
That necks do not bow to their rule.
Will freemen yield obedience, bow the neck.

They are not our kin, nor do we seek
No friends are they, nor seek we in their stead
A replacement for our kin, who have been torn apart.
Whom for our friends we chose ere bonds were loosed.

Our closest brothers—we are joined to them
Our humble brethren draw us unto them,
By a flag that shades us and a faith that unites us.
One creed we share, one flag above us waves.
سَيَلفُّناwill enfold us الزَمَنُtime المُفَرِّقُthat divides بَينَناbetween us

Time, which divides us, will enfold us,
Time, who has wrought this trouble, will again
And the era we await will bring us together.
Unite us, and the pact for which we hope

Then the days of ill fortune will vanish, and an end will come
Annul these transient days of bitter woe
To the calamities of time that we swallow.
And griefs encounterd in our mortal lot.

Indeed, souls, despite the grandeur of their stillness,
For knowing well man's soul craves after calm,
Surely surge at a momentous event and take fright.
Events of high import stir it to its depths.

And the people, so long as they bear affliction,
A people, howsoe'er in pain endured,
However they steel themselves, will inevitably give way to anguish.
Must feel at length anguish they cannot bear.
