لَكَ اللهُ أَقبِلْ أبا خَيْثَمهْ

لَكَ اللهُ أَقبِلْ أبا خَيْثَمهْ

فِللّهِ صُنْعَكَ ما أَكْرَمَهْ

فِللّهِ صُنْعَكَ ما أَكْرَمَهْ

God be with you! Come forward, Abu Khaythamah!

God bless you Abu Khaythama

So praise be to God for your deed—how noble it is!

Your deed is so honorable to God

قَعدتَ فلما كَرِهتَ القُعودَ

قَعدتَ فلما كَرِهتَ القُعودَ

نَفرت حَثيثاً إلى المَلْحَمَهْ

نَفرت حَثيثاً إلى المَلْحَمَهْ

You stayed behind; then, when you loathed staying behind,

You sat still until you disliked stillness

You hastened forth to the battle.

Then you marched eagerly to battle

دَخلتَ العَريشَ على نَعجتيك

دَخلتَ العَريشَ على نَعجتيك

فَسُبحانَ ربِّكَ ما أعظَمَهْ

فَسُبحانَ ربِّكَ ما أعظَمَهْ

You entered the bower to join your two ewes;

You entered the sheep pen by your two ewes

Glory be to your Lord—how great He is!

Glory be to your Lord, how great is He!

نَعِيمٌ يَروقُ وظِلٌّ يشوقُ

نَعِيمٌ يَروقُ وظِلٌّ يشوقُ

وعَيشٌ يَسرُّكَ أن تَغْنَمَهْ

وعَيشٌ يَسرُّكَ أن تَغْنَمَهْ

Comfort that delights, and shade that beckons,

A bliss that satisfies, and shade that allures,

And a life you are happy to enjoy.

And life you delight in, if you can get it

فذكَّرَكَ اللهُ حَرَّ الجهاد

فذكَّرَكَ اللهُ حَرَّ الجهاد

وألهمَ قلبكَ ما ألْهَمَهْ

وألهمَ قلبكَ ما ألْهَمَهْ

Then God reminded you of the heat of striving in His cause,

But God reminded you of the heat of jihad

And inspired your heart with what He imparted to it.

And inspired your heart with what He inspired it

فقلتَ أيمضي الرسولُ الكريم

فقلتَ أيمضي الرسولُ الكريم

يُكابِدُ في اللَّهِ ما جَشَّمَهْ

يُكابِدُ في اللَّهِ ما جَشَّمَهْ

So you said: Shall the noble Messenger go forth,

So you said, shall the noble Messenger

Enduring for God's sake what He has made him bear,

Endure for God what harshness he's endured

وأبقى هُنا في هَوى نَعْجَتيّ

وأبقى هُنا في هَوى نَعْجَتيّ

وَحُبِّ العريشِ كذِي الملأمَهْ

وَحُبِّ العريشِ كذِي الملأمَهْ

While I remain here, in love with my two ewes

While I stay here, craving my two ewes

And enamored of the bower, like one deserving blame?

And love of the sheep pen, what misguidance!

وَسِرْتَ فأدركَتَهُ في تبوك

وَسِرْتَ فأدركَتَهُ في تبوك

وللجيشِ من حَوْلِهِ هَمْهَمَهْ

وللجيشِ من حَوْلِهِ هَمْهَمَهْ

And you set out and caught up with him at Tabuk,

You marched on, and met him in Tabuk

And a murmur rose from the army around him.

The troops around him, thronging and murmuring

يقولون مَن ذا وما خطبهُ

يقولون مَن ذا وما خطبهُ

ألا إنّه أبو خَيْثَمَهْ

ألا إنّه أبو خَيْثَمَهْ

They say: Who is this, and what is his business?

"Who's this, what's his business?" they asked

Behold, it is Abu Khaythamah!

Behold, it is Abu Khaythama!

ألم يَكُ في المعشرِ القاعدين

ألم يَكُ في المعشرِ القاعدين

فماذا عراهُ وما أَقْدَمَهْ

فماذا عراهُ وما أَقْدَمَهْ

Was he not among those who stayed behind?

Was he not with those who stayed behind?

Then what came over him, and what brought him here?

What need or madness brought him here now?

هُوَ اللَّهُ يَهدِي نُفوسَ الرجال

هُوَ اللَّهُ يَهدِي نُفوسَ الرجال

ويَرزقها البِرَّ والمَرْحَمَهْ

ويَرزقها البِرَّ والمَرْحَمَهْ

It is God who guides the souls of men,

It is God who guides men's souls aright

And grants them righteousness and mercy.

And provides them righteousness and mercy
