Go forth, for happiness is wherever you may be.

And your auspicious journey is itself a joy.

Prudence is a guide, and statecraft a mount.

And resolve is a camel-driver, and decisiveness a companion.

Each year you have a journey, through which you seek

What is hard to attain among our hopes—and it becomes easy.

You reach the watering places; their clarity is not disturbed

By slanderers' talk—and slanderers have their ways.

Go forth, for hearts hover over your mounts.

Their hidden secret appears before your eye.

They have accompanied you, knowing that your kindness is their sustenance.

And kindness is a guarantor of sincere love.

Rise at Yildiz as a blazing star.

Deep darkness and gloom recede from it.

And meet the caliph, whose face has brightened

With joy, and who has hastened toward you, though dignified.

And both of you remember the old covenant, and renew

A covenant that makes steadfast affection plain.

The suspicions of the ignorant have multiplied, yet seldom

Do suspicions remain when certainty becomes clear.

They lied, for what you both sealed has not been undone.

And conjecture can mislead in some matters.

Does Tashyoz stir them up, though it is a cloud

That passes as dark clouds pass?

Indeed, it does not escape the caliph's knowledge

That the prince is his sharpened sword.

    تَعنو لَهُ هامُ العِدى وَتَدينُ

    And it is part of statecraft that he remain keen-edged;

The heads of foes bow to him and submit.

Abbas, for those whom you govern, you are indeed

An impregnable fortress that repels assaults.

When you tame calamity, its worsening is checked

By a resolve before which dire misfortunes yield.
