We, the sons of Osman, are humankind's lofty peaks;
We are the sons of Uthman, the banners of the world,
And above the earth the peaks tower.
And over the land the banners rise high.

We are the hump when humankind vies in pride;
We are the emblem when people take pride,
And among people are hoof and hump.
And among people some are marked and some are emblems.

ملكٌa king بِأَمرِwith the command of إِلههِhis God قَوّامُsteadfast in upholding
Our affairs, indeed, are governed and set aright
Our affairs are governed and kept upright,
By a king steadfast in upholding his God's command.
By a king at the command of his mighty God.

Broad of arm; all that concerns us is dealt with
Broad of arm, his capability we care for,
By his judgment, a sharp sword amid difficulties.
His view in dilemmas is a sharp sword.
عَبدُAbd (servant of) الحَميدal-Hamid (the Praiseworthy) أَتاحَgranted فيin أَيّامِهِhis days

لِلملكِto the realm ماwhat ذهبتwent away بِهِwith it الأَيّامُthe days
Abdul Hamid restored, in his days,
Abdul Hamid enabled in his days,
To the realm what the passing days had carried away.
For the king what days had taken away.

But for his prudence and the strength of his might,
Had it not been for his ferocity and might,
And his resolve, Islam would surely have tottered.
And his flames, Islam would have crumbled.

He has never ceased guarding his watering place since he came to it;
He still protects his basin as he came to it,
Just so the lion guards its thicket.
As the intense darkness protects its darkness.

ماذاwhat يُسدِّدُhe will set right وَالمُلوكُwhile the kings نِيامُasleep
A king who keeps vigil at night, pondering tomorrow—
A king who stays up at night, looking to the morrow,
What he will set right—while kings sleep.
What he will set right while kings are sleeping.

He kept the caliphate's towers beyond reach,
He prevented the caliphate, its castles,
Till even fancies shunned its courtyards.
Until its plateaus confused imaginations.

Off with the noses of those peoples, beguiled
Staunchly, to the noses of a group who prided themselves,
With hopes of dominion by what dreams had promised them.
With the kingdom what dreams had not prided them with.
وَلَقدand indeed دَرىlearned اليُونانُthe Greeks أَنّاthat we مَعشرٌa people

And the Greeks have surely learned that we are a people,
The Greeks knew well that we are a folk,
Noble, mighty smiters of armored champions in battle's terror.
Valiant with spears, striking with swords.

وَسماand rose لَهاtoward it تَحتbeneath الحَديدِthe iron ضِرامُa blaze
White of face when battle bares its teeth,
White of face when the ugly one snarled,
And beneath the iron a blaze rises to meet it.
And destiny marked it with iron under the skin.
نَسطوwe attack fiercely وَنَبطشand strike violently قادرينpowerful أَعزّةًunbowed

تَشكوcomplain السُيوفُthe swords ضِرابَناour blows وَالهامُand the skulls
We charge and strike, mighty and unbowed;
We conquer and vanquish the honored and mighty,
Swords complain of our blows, and so do skulls.
The swords complain of our striking and determination.
نَهفوwe move lightly وَتثبتand remain firm رُجّحاًweighty أَحلامُناour minds

We move lightly, yet our minds stay firm and weighty;
We roar and our dreams prove true,
While their minds keep fluttering.
While their dreams about us keep wishing.
وَارحمتاoh, pity! للرُومِfor the Rum أَبقَيناwe left بِهمin them

جُرحاًa wound مَدىthroughout الأَيّامِthe days لاnot يَلتامُit heals
Alas for the Rum! We have left in them
And it was mercy for Rome we left them,
A wound that will not heal as long as days endure.
A wound the length of days does not mend.

We surely prevent our sacred domain from being violated,
We will indeed prevent violation of our sanctity,
And shake the lands whenever it is violated.
And shake the lands when it is violated.

Endure, O Commander of the Faithful, for whoever
Continue, O Commander of the Faithful, for what
Opposes you cannot endure amid all creation.
Remains for those who opposed you in both worlds?

May you ever remain lofty, O pillar of the caliphate,
You still stand, O pillar of the caliphate, towering,
To you the Bedouin Arabs and non-Arabs bow.
Nomads and settled folk chant your glory.
