تبرج لي الدنيا على حين لا ارى

تبرج لي الدنيا على حين لا ارى

بها برجا يسبي ولا بلجا يصبي

بها برجا يسبي ولا بلجا يصبي

The world flaunts her charms before me at a time when I see

The world allured me when I could not see

In her no beauty of eye that captivates, nor radiance that beguiles.

In it a tower to enslave, or stream to intoxicate.

فقلت لها اني واياك جاءنا

فقلت لها اني واياك جاءنا

نذير بما لاق التصبي بمن تصبى

نذير بما لاق التصبي بمن تصبى

So I told her, “Indeed, to you and me has come

So I said to it, between you and me has come

A warning: feigning youth does not befit one who feigns it.”

A warner of what befalls those intoxicated by you.
