جُدْلي بوصل يا غصن البان

توجر عليه أو في النيّه

توجر عليه أو في النيّه

Grant me union, O branch of the bān tree;

Reunite me with my beloved, o slender branch,

you will be rewarded for it, or for the intention.

Whether you intend to or it’s just intended.

ما القصد إلا يوماً مرآك

ما القصد إلا يوماً مرآك

فالصبُّ صار في بليه

فالصبُّ صار في بليه

My only aim is to see you one day,

My only goal is to see you again one day.

for the lovesick lover has fallen into affliction.

So my patience is lost and in turmoil.

لا تخش عذلاً ممن أغراك

لا تخش عذلاً ممن أغراك

فهو أمار بالأذّيه

فهو أمار بالأذّيه

Do not fear reproach from whoever has enticed you,

Do not fear blame from whoever deceived you,

for he is ever urging harm.

For he is prone to causing pain.

نعمت بالاً أنعم بالي

نعمت بالاً أنعم بالي

يا ذا الجفون الهنديه

يا ذا الجفون الهنديه

Your mind is at ease; ease mine,

I was blessed with afflictions and blessed my afflictions.

O you with Indian eyelids.

O you of Indian eyelids.

وطبت حالا طيّب حالي

وطبت حالا طيّب حالي

فلي شجون في الطويه

فلي شجون في الطويه

And you fare well; make my lot pleasant,

And I made the best of the situation, so make the best of mine,

for I have sorrows in my inmost heart.

For I have sorrows deep inside.

فقت الأناما بما حويت

فقت الأناما بما حويت

من الخصال الملكيه

من الخصال الملكيه

You have surpassed humankind through what you possess

People are envious of what I hold

of angelic qualities.

Of kingly traits and virtues.

ومنك راما عبد سبيت

ومنك راما عبد سبيت

بهذا الدلال قرب الطيه

بهذا الدلال قرب الطيه

And from you a slave has sought—one you have taken captive

And whoever desires you, enslaved me,

with this coquetry—closeness to his destination.

With this flirtation, stay close my dear.

كم ذا المطال ولا وصال

كم ذا المطال ولا وصال

ليست ترام ذي السجيه

ليست ترام ذي السجيه

How long this delay, and no union?

So much longing, and still no union.

This disposition is not to be desired—

This is not the way for the bashful.

هذي الفعال يا ربّ الخال

هذي الفعال يا ربّ الخال

وذا الغرام لي منيّه

وذا الغرام لي منيّه

such deeds, O you with the beauty mark!

These are my deeds, oh Lord of creation,

And this passion is death to me.

And this passion is my own doing.

أنت المراد دون الأنام

لا ندّ لك في البريه

لا ندّ لك في البريه

You, not the rest of humankind, are the one I seek;

You are the one I desire, not the people.
