لعيني العدو من الصديق

May God bless the experiences, for they revealed

May God shepherd my trials as they unfold

to my eyes the enemy as distinct from the friend.

To my eyes the foe from the friend

فصرت ارى بها سر الطوايا

ومن هو شامت بي من شفيقي

So through them I came to see the secret of hidden intentions,

Thus I see through them the secrets of intentions

and who gloats over my misfortune as distinct from my well-wisher.

And who gloats over me or feels sympathy for me
