It is forbidden for anyone absent from Egypt

to deem another land better and see faults in her.

His baseness and his loss have come together

because he has become absent from her while finding fault.

So away with him—an absentee who finds fault!

And loss be his—an absentee who is thwarted!

For Egypt is nothing but a paradise, and her gardens

are the dreams of every soul enticed by delights.

And her Kawthar is the blessed Nile, overflowing

with all-embracing bounty the clouds have not poured forth.

For I am indeed a blemish upon her, while her mighty one's bounty

pours upon every hopeful one in creation.
