إن قال غيري قد يقال زوجة

إن قال غيري قد يقال زوجة

فإنني أقول زوجي دون ها

فإنني أقول زوجي دون ها

If another says, “One may say ‘wife’ (zawjah),”

If others say "a wife",

then I say “my spouse” (zawjī), without the feminine “-ah,”

I say "my husband", none but her,

إذ لا أرى التأنيث في أخلاقها

إذ لا أرى التأنيث في أخلاقها

بل الفحول في العراك دونها

بل الفحول في العراك دونها

for I see no femininity in her character;

For in her nature, I see no femininity,

rather, virile men fall short of her in a fight.

But masculinity in the fray, none above her.
