إنindeed الجوائبal-Jawāʾib والدنياand al-Dunyā قدindeed اعتدتاthey both transgressed
إن الجوائب والدنيا قد اعتدتا
علىagainst أبa father محسنbenevolent وابنand a son رضwell disposed لهماtoward them both
على أب محسن وابن رض لهما
Indeed, al-Jawāʾib and al-Dunyā have both transgressed
The rewards and life have transgressed
against a benevolent father and a son well disposed toward them both.
Against a benevolent father and a content son
فبئسso how vile منthose who مانتاthey both lied to بالوعدwith the promise الفهماthe companion of them both
فبئس من مانتا بالوعد الفهما
وساءand how wicked منthose who خانتاthey both betrayed بالعهدin the covenant اهلهماthe people of them both
وساء من خانتا بالعهد اهلهما
So vile are those two who lied to their companion with promises,
So bad are the promises they kept for both
and wicked are those two who betrayed their own people by breaking their pledge.
And evil is the covenant they broke with their people
