Let my eye weep blood, and leave me alone.

For my plight and state are unlike what you two see in me.

Let my body bear its sickness alone,

and my heart its flames and throbbing.

Leave me with my heart, which I melt with passion,

while striking my own molar with my fingertips.

For not everyone who weeps from longing is gravely lovesick,

nor is everyone who laments ardent yearning a captive.

My heart and anguish are united,

and my eyelid and slumber are parted.

God has decreed love and passion for me as long as I live,

so passion and the soul have come together.

So have you, O my reproachers, [the power] to avert what

God has decreed and then made binding?
