Let my eye weep blood, and leave me be.

For my plight and state are not what you two see in me.

Let my body bear its sickness alone,

And my heart its fires and palpitations.

Leave me to melt my heart with passion,

And strike my own molar with my fingertips.

For not everyone who weeps from longing is sick with love,

Nor is everyone who complains of ardent love a captive.

My heart and anguish are joined,

And my eyelid and sleep are parted.

God has decreed love and passion for me as long as I live,

So passion and the soul have come together.

Can you then, O my reproachers, avert what

God has decreed and brought to pass? [Final word unclear.]
