لقد كان بي في الأمس نهم قراءةٍ

لقد كان بي في الأمس نهم قراءةٍ

كأنيَ  ظمآن الى المنهل الجاري

كأنيَ ظمآن الى المنهل الجاري

Indeed, yesterday I had a voracious appetite for reading,

Yesterday I had an avid thirst for reading

As though I were thirsty for the flowing spring.

As if I were thirsty for a flowing spring

فأصبحت  خصماً للكتاب كأنني

فأصبحت خصماً للكتاب كأنني

رَوِيتُ  وهذا يوم إعطاء أثماري

رَوِيتُ وهذا يوم إعطاء أثماري

So I have become an adversary of the book, as though I

But now I've become a foe of books, as though

Had drunk my fill—and this is the day to offer my fruits.

I've been quenched, and this is the day for my harvest
