شـكرت ولاة سـجن أطلقـوني

شـكرت ولاة سـجن أطلقـوني

وقلـت هـمُ ذوو خيـرٍ ودين

I thanked the wardens of a prison who released me,

And I said: they are people of goodness and faith.

وعدت أصبّ فوق العقل غيظي

وعدت أصبّ فوق العقل غيظي

لأن العقـل أصـبح كالجنون

لأن العقـل أصـبح كالجنون

Then I returned to pouring my anger upon reason,

Because reason has become like madness.

أإطلاق السـجين يُعـدُّ خيراً    

أإطلاق السـجين يُعـدُّ خيراً

ويُنسـى شر إمساك السجين

ويُنسـى شر إمساك السجين

Is releasing the prisoner counted as a good deed,

While the evil of imprisoning the prisoner is forgotten?
