لا  حبيباً  حتى اشتهيت الرقيبا

I lived at home alone, with no kinsman,

I lived alone in the house, with no kin,

nor beloved—until I yearned even for the watcher.

No loved one, until I longed for the watcher.

أفرطت   وحدتي  ببيتيَ  حتى

أفرطت وحدتي ببيتيَ حتى

أحسب   اللصّ  زائراً  محبوبا

أحسب اللصّ زائراً محبوبا

My solitude at home grew so extreme that

My loneliness at home grew so extreme that

I deemed the thief a beloved visitor.

I regard a thief as a welcome visitor.
