  1. هجوت حبيبي رغم موتي بحبه

    هو النفس أهجوها إذا لم تُطع أمرا

    I lampooned my beloved, though I am dying of love for him.

    He is my very soul; I lampoon it when it disobeys a command.

  2. أعاتبه بالشعر للصخر مشجياً

    ولكنْ حبيبي الحلو لا يفهم الشعرا

    I reproach him with verse that moves even stone to grief.

    And yet my sweet beloved does not understand poetry.
