سألتْني الشعراءُ أين أميرهم

فأجبت   إيليّا   بقول  مطلق

فأجبت إيليّا بقول مطلق

My companions asked me, “Where is their prince?”

The poets asked me where their prince was.

I answered, “Ilya”—without qualification.

So I answered, “Iliya,” without qualification.

قالوا وانت فقلت ذاك أميركم

قالوا وانت فقلت ذاك أميركم

فأنا  الأمير  لأُمة  لم  تُخلق

فأنا الأمير لأُمة لم تُخلق

They said, “And you?” I said, “He is your prince;

They said, “And you?” I said, “He is your prince.”

for I am the prince of a nation not yet created.”
